Frequently Asked Questions About Fittings & Accessories

1. What is the difference between Push-to-Connect (PTC) and Compression fittings?

  • Push-to-Connect (PTC): The modern standard. You simply push the nylon tubing in to lock it. It’s faster to install and great for tight spaces.

  • Compression: Uses a nut and sleeve (ferrule) to tighten onto the tubing. It takes longer to install but is often preferred for high-vibration areas as it offers a very mechanical grip. Both types supplied by Victory Technology are DOT approved.

2. Are your brass fittings reusable?

DOT Compression fittings are reusable if you replace the sleeve (ferrule). Push-to-Connect fittings can be disconnected and reconnected multiple times, but if the internal teeth wear out, the entire fitting should be replaced to ensure safety.

3. How do I know which Gladhand seal to use?

We recommend Polyurethane (Poly) Seals over traditional rubber. Poly seals last longer, resist oil/chemicals better, and don’t tear as easily. We offer them in Red and Blue to match your lines.

4. What does “NPT” mean for fittings?

NPT (National Pipe Taper) is the US standard for tapered threads used on air brake systems. The most common sizes on trucks are 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ NPT. Note: NPT threads require thread sealant (like PTFE tape) to be airtight.
