Frequently Asked Questions About Air Brake Hoses
1. What is the difference between SAE J1402 and SAE J844 air hoses?
SAE J1402 refers to heavy-duty Rubber Air Brake Hoses. These are thicker, more durable, and typically used for the flexible connection between the tractor and trailer (air jumpers) because they resist abrasion better. SAE J844 refers to Nylon Tubing. It is lightweight, widely used for chassis plumbing, and is the material used to make retractable Coiled Air Lines. Victory Technology supplies both types.
2. Are your air brake hoses suitable for extreme cold weather?
Yes. We offer “Arctic Grade” air brake coils made from premium virgin Nylon 12 (PA12). Unlike cheap recycled materials, our PA12 tubing remains flexible and resistant to cracking in temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F), making them ideal for winter driving in Canada and the Northern US.
3. Do Victory Technology air brake lines come with DOT certification?
Absolutely. All our air brake assemblies are manufactured to meet or exceed DOT FMVSS 106 standards. Each hose is permanently marked with our DOT registration code, ensuring your rig remains legal and safe.
4. Can I buy Red and Blue air lines separately?
Yes. While most drivers buy the Red (Emergency) and Blue (Service) lines as a pair (Coil Set), we also sell them individually. We also offer Black hoses for specific industrial or custom applications.
5. How do I prevent my coiled air lines from sagging?
Sagging coils are a safety hazard. To prevent this, ensure you are using high-quality PA12 Nylon coils which have superior “recoil memory” compared to cheaper PU alternatives. Additionally, we recommend using a Tracker Bar Spring Kit or Pogo Stick to support the lines and keep them off the deck plate.
6. What fitting sizes do you offer for semi-truck air lines?
Our assemblies come pre-crimped with leak-proof CNC machined brass fittings.
Standard: 1/2″ NPT (Fixed or Swivel) is the most common for North American trucks.
Metric: M16, M18, and M22 fittings are available for European or specific OEM truck models.
7. Do you offer bulk pricing or private labeling for distributors?
Yes, Victory Technology is a factory-direct supplier. We offer tiered wholesale pricing for bulk orders (carton or pallet). We also provide OEM services, including printing your brand logo on the hoses and custom packaging design. [Contact Us] for a quote.
8. How often should I replace my air brake hoses?
We recommend inspecting your air lines during every pre-trip inspection. Generally, rubber air hoses should be replaced every 2-5 years depending on UV exposure and wear. If you see any cracks, visible braiding, or hear hissing leaks, replace the assembly immediately to avoid DOT violations.
